Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or place entered in a search tool is transmitted to the outside provider that operates that tool. The provider processes the request and supplies its results. Clark County Criminal History does not retain or log those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
We retain a message sent to us long enough to respond and handle the related correspondence. It remains within our organization unless disclosure is required by a valid legal obligation.
Data We Gather Automatically
Our servers receive routine technical information when a page loads, which can include:
- Page-view dates and times
- The referring site, when one is available
- Pages viewed and the length of each visit
- Device type and operating system
- Browser type and version
- The device's assigned IP address
Cookies and Analytics
Small files called cookies help us understand site use, such as which Clark County record pages receive visits and where sessions end. Analytics vendors combine that traffic into reports. A browser can reject or remove cookies, though disabling them may change how parts of the site work.

No Criminal-Record Data on File
Clark County Criminal History does not keep, assemble, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes general access information for the Clark clerk, sheriff, detention center, Kentucky State Police Criminal Identification and Records Branch, and Kentucky State Police Sex Offender Registry. We are not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act. Visitor data is not turned into a consumer report or a record about another person.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies operate the search boxes. Their privacy policies, retention schedules, and disclosure terms govern information submitted through those tools. We do not control those choices, so review the relevant provider's policy before sending a query.
Links to Other Websites
Links to Clark County offices, Kentucky agencies, courts, legal-aid resources, and search services lead to websites we do not operate. Once a visitor follows a link, the destination's own privacy rules apply. Check them before providing personal information.
Advertising partners may use their systems to measure activity across websites and select ads. Their tracking does not occur on systems controlled by us.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Data may be available to:
- A search partner chosen to process a submitted query
- Analytics providers measuring traffic and site performance
- Advertising networks serving material on the pages
- A court, agency, or law-enforcement body acting under a valid legal order
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable security practices protect the information under our control. No internet service can promise absolute security, however, and we cannot guarantee that unauthorized access or a breach will never occur.
Users Under 18
This resource is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal data from a person under 18. If we learn that a minor supplied such data, we will remove it.
Your Data Rights
When its coverage requirements apply, the Kentucky Consumer Data Protection Act, KRS 367.3611 through 367.3629, supplies the state's consumer-data framework. Kentucky's Open Records Act, KRS 61.870 through 61.884, governs records held by public agencies, while KRS 17.150 controls access to completed law-enforcement investigations. Those public-record laws do not turn this private site into a government records custodian. Depending on the law that applies, a visitor may ask us to:
- Request a copy of personal information held about that visitor
- Ask that inaccurate personal data be corrected
- Request deletion of personal data
- Object to certain forms of processing
Updates to This Policy
This policy may be revised as practices or legal duties change. A revised version will appear here and will carry a new effective date.
